I’ve been a cnc router operator for the past 19 years. I started right out of highschool and it’s the only job I’ve ever had. I enjoy working with machines because of it and have bought my own personal cnc machines because of it. My dad used to make cabinets as a side job and has given me all his old (but still very good) equipment. My father in law recently bought a small old warehouse that was a window making company. He allowed me to set up all my machines there.
So now I’m sitting in a warehouse with all sorts of woodworking machinery, a laser cutter/engraver, a small 3×3 foot cnc router, a bambu 3d printer with 2 ams units (so I can print 8 colors), and a lathe. I dont know what to do with any of it though. I’d love to work for myself and make stuff but I’m not an idea man. I’m very much into nerd culture, so I’ve thought about building DnD/gaming tables but I wouldn’t know how to ship something so big and is there even a market for it? I can engrave metal tumblers on the laser very easily. I enjoy making little coasters with wood or 3d printing them (with my own designs i make in fusion) but it’s usually always characters and stuff that I dont have the rights to be selling. I want it to be something i enjoy making and not “basic stuff” like I don’t want to pump out “live, laugh, love” signs all day.
I feel like I have a great opportunity to do something here but I can’t figure out what. I’m on my wife’s insurance so I wouldn’t need to worry about that. And I make roughly $700-800 a week at my job now so I would just want to be able to bring in around that much with whatever I do.
Any ideas? If anyone is interested i can post pics of all the little things I’ve made so far while trying to figure stuff out.
