The inquiry here is about something sort of known as segmenting your product distribution. If you sell product to retail distribution outlets is it a regular thing that you might choose which retailers that you limit your products too? This is in regards to these big retailers attempting to go against the movements of the online marketplaces and battling people just “going online” to get the product cheaper or quicker/easier/whatever. This means that a big retailer might actually ask you to distribute the product only to them and no/few other large retailers. It would seem that the big retailers are already doing something like this but I don’t know. I suppose it’s entirely possible that the retailers have not caught on to or started the trend where they are looking for products that only sell through their stores/outlets.
If I distribute an interesting product that can sell through the big retailers then they might not want me to sell the same product online through a big marketplace or such. As mentioned, I would think that the retailers are already doing something like this and approaching it that way but I don’t know. Have any of you all encountered this? Is it good to do and actually let a few retailers be the only ones that sell your unique/interesting product?
It might seem like there is already a website or unique distributor that is only distributing products to physical retailers and not to sellers using 3rd party online marketplaces. Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance…
