An idea sparked from something that happened not too long ago.
One night, a woman I didn’t know pretended to be my friend at a bar to escape a guy who was making her uncomfortable. I picked up on what she was doing, played along, and gave her a safe ride hom.(She saw I was with a girl before so I guess she saw that as safe enough to trust me.) That moment stuck with me and it’s been hovering in my mind. Especially because I can’t tell you how many times friends have told me about how they couldn’t get away from a guy at a party/bar/etc. I’ve picked friends up because of things like this.
What if there was service for women who feel unsafe or uncomfortable getting home from a bar or party?
I’m calling it Be Safe, Get Home (BSGH).
From 9 PM to 12 AM in the I’d be available to pick up women in uncomfortable or dangerous situations, within 20-30 minutes of my location, no judgment, no questions. The difference between me and Uber/Lyft? I’d walk into the bar if needed, pretend to be your friend, or confront the guy if you wanted me to. Then I’d drive you home safely.
No payment required, just donations if you believe in what I’m doing. I’d use them strictly for gas and wear-and-tear on my car, maybe eventually turn it in to a non profit and hire trusted people.
I’ve read too many horror stories and I thought to myself, why isn’t this a thing?
Even if I only help a few people a night, that might be one life saved.
This is just an idea for now, would love to hear from people about it. I know there are a lot of things that would need to be worked out but just an idea.
Body cameras and car cameras would be a must obviously, so many things to work out, but I think it would be amazing if done correctly.
