As imperfect as law is, it remains effective at mitigating harm. There will never be a time when no one is hurt. The duty of healthcare professionals, law enforcement, and government workers is to help guide those within the system.

And freedom without constraints is not freedom. It is fantasy. “Escaping” the system is ultimately meaningless, because if one leaves a system, he enters another. Law allows ways for us to safely express ourselves within its boundaries.

I’ll give an example of two figures:

Figure A works, but does not commit to work because he is “against the system.”

Figure B works, but only commits to work because he has to, not necessarily because he loves work.

Still, this does not excuse institutional harm, and institutions should adjust their policies accordingly. Not all proposals deserve execution, but some form of recognition.

What stops us from hurting other people?

What stops us from making bad decisions?
