Hey Reddit!
I’m working on a nonprofit project, and I’d love to get your thoughts. The goal is to build a system that ensures transparency when people donate, and we’ve come up with a unique way to do that through an eCommerce store.
Here’s the plan (this is an example): We’ll sell clothing items like hoodies, and for every purchase made, we’ll donate something (starting with shoes) to those in need. The great part is that not only will people be buying something for themselves, but their purchase will also mean they’re buying something for someone else in need.
But what really sets us apart is how we provide proof. After each purchase, we create a personalized video that shows the donation in action. We’ll show the donated item being wrapped in a gift box, along with a tag showing the customer’s order number and name, and we’ll also show the gift being given to the recipient on camera. This way, every customer sees exactly where their contribution goes, making it clear and transparent. I know it sounds impossible but we’ll use templates to make editing easier.
The reason we’re so focused on transparency is simple: too many nonprofits waste funds on unnecessary things or, worse, don’t donate at all. We want to prevent that by offering clear proof for every donation. This system allows us to build trust and show that we’re genuinely making an impact.
We’re also very careful about maintaining the dignity and privacy of those receiving donations. While we’ll show the donation process and the impact it has, we avoid showing full faces to protect their identity while still letting customers witness the real difference they’re making.
Here’s how the numbers work: Our profit margins are set up in a way that we can donate 80 to 90 percent of the profits from each sale and still be profitable enough to keep the organization running. I’ve been managing e-commerce stores for over 5 years and I know this is possible.
We’re starting this experiment in rural Zimbabwe, Africa, by donating shoes to kids in need. If this works well, we plan to expand to other regions like Asia and America, supporting additional causes such as fighting homelessness, hunger, and environmental preservation. As we grow, we’ll continue providing video evidence of every donation to maintain transparency.
The goal is to create a viral effect by encouraging customers to share their personalized videos with friends and family. This will help spread the word and build a community around the cause. We plan to hire editors to streamline the process as soon as we establish a good system.
What do you think? Would this be something you’d want to take part in? I’d love to hear your feedback!
