When I was a kid I would stare at the washing machine as the clothes would go round and round. And, I loved every second of it. The washing machine would also create white noise sort of like the vacuum cleaner. And, I’d try to mimic or harmonize to the sound by humming. It was comforting because I could feel the vibration in my throat and chest. Sometimes I’d just put my hand on the washing/dryer to feel the vibrations of those machines. Weirdly, they’d massage my hands giving comforting tingles. But the washer I had was one with a lid. You couldn’t see the clothes like the ones at laundry mat.
So, I’d often just put my hand on the machine to sort of stim. Part of me wished that the vibrations would match a song rhythm. Like how some firework shows will time their displays to the beat of a song. So, even when you can’t hear the boom… you can feel the “boom” in your chest. This is still my favorite part when viewing fireworks. Not the sound or even the lights but the shockwave that you’d feel throughout your body.
By a washer matching it’s vibrations to a song… it’d probably make the experience satisfying for kids. Like timing the shaking cycles to the beats of a song. Or sending a buzzer to match a song but not actually rotating the clothes to the beat as that might decrease proficiency. But it’d create the same impression of relief/joy like how applications, downloads, uploads, and updates often include a loading screen. The loading screen doesn’t do anything. It just gives the user the impression that an update will be finished in that time.
It’d probably a dumb or useless idea. As we already have SMART machines that can do stuff like this. But I don’t know if there’s anything that gives a vibration like how fireworks just make you feel connected to everything. Or like blasting the car radio on full blast. But I wonder if there’s a way to make it less jarring with the same effect?
Sort of like how a dubstep video will show visual circles when a beat picks up (I think it’s called a synthesizer?) Like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYnYgMMJn00
