Instead they handle reports from random other subreddits, and their own subreddit gets credit for moderation from other subreddits.
This forces all subreddit rules to be written and clear, because that’s what the decisions would have to be based on. Appeals would go to a different random mod to review.
There would need to be some system to prevent subreddits stuffing their own mod pool with random idiots. Maybe banning mods who make too many decisions that are overturned?
