​Found in an old mansion in Texas that’s been converted into a museum, these sideways “drawers” in the wall

The light switch gives you an idea of the size, they were probably about 2-3 feet off the ground, built into the wall, with handles to pull them out. They resemble some kind of rack but it doesn’t seem like it would be for laundry. There was no staff to ask in this room and I forgot to bring it up again on my way out. I took a photo of the wooden racks inside the wall too. I thought maybe they would be used for laundry as well were in the bottom of the house where domestic work would occur, but I’m not sure how.
