​how do you potray violence in a poem?

I’d kind of like to write a few poems that have violent imagery, but I’m struggling to do so well; likely because I’m trying to stick to some kind of rhyme while also avoiding direct gore or shock-value-type statements.

What should I do to try and convey violence while sticking to these arbitrary guidelines I’ve set for myself?
