I am a 28 year old stay at home mom and would love to start my own business that I can do from home. I’ve wanted to do this for a while, but always talk myself out of it and convince myself I can’t do it. I would say my skills are in the realm of Etsy businesses and baking. My husband thinks if I were to start a business, selling my chocolate chip cookies should be a no brainer (they’re very good). I also do hand lettering/calligraphy, writing, gardening, sourdough, andam a novice candle and lip balm maker.
I’ve worked in retail, landscaping, child care, and health and fitness. I studied exercise science for 2 years and was a runner in college, and transferred and got my bachelor’s in intercultural studies. I have zero business running experience.
I live in the Chicago area and would want this to be a part-time side gig type business, with the potential for it to grow into something bigger. I am not sure at this time how much I could invest into it from the start. That would be a conversation to have with my husband once I’ve locked in on the idea and have gained confidence that I can do it.
Would a simple chocolate chip cookie business be profitable, or would adding in other items be better? Or would one of the other things I listed be more worth it? Then there’s the question of whether or not I should have a blog, create a website to sell items, use Etsy, or do a word of mouth type business (specifically if I were selling cookies). And I really don’t have a ton of knowledge on how a lot of this works, so I’m all ears. Thanks in advance!!
