I’m starting this one over. The more I tried making it work the first time, the less I liked it. The basics of it are that it starts with a young woman named Lorelei moving from LA to Vegas to get away from her overbearing mother. Lorelei is on the autism spectrum and her mom is the type who believes that autistic people can’t be independent in any capacity. So she told mom she would just be visiting her dad in Vegas rather than moving.
The plan works. She’s staying with her dad and step mom until she can have her own place. They even have Lorelei be an assistant to her step mom, who’s the overall operator for her dad’s music venue, until she can get a baking job. Her dream is be a head baker someday. While being the assistant, she meets Owen.
Owen is the bassist for his band. (Inspired by Korn and Slipknot). They’re performing at Lorelei’s dad’s music venue. The last date on their tour. Since Owen and his band live in Vegas, so they don’t mind at all. Owen meets Lorelei and finds her attractive. They talk for a few minutes after the show and find they have a fair amount of things in common.
As time goes one, the feelings grow stronger on both ends. Owen can deny the feelings, but is reluctant to act on them because he’s older than her and his last relationship is didn’t end well. The ex began stalking him after he broke things off. They were only together for 6 months, but the ex had become convinced they were soulmates and was eventually sent to prison for breaking into his home and stabbing him.
Lorelei doesn’t care about the age gap and is willing to make the relationship work. He makes her happier then she though possible. The only hurtle she feels she has is her mother. Her mom believes that Lorelei is incapable of consenting to a romantic relationship or anything related to one. At some point, her mom flies out to Vegas to try and make Lorelei come back to LA. Lorelei, of course, refuses. She finally has a life of her own and someone who wants to be with her.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. I really believe in this story and want it published some day. Thank you so much for reading this post.
