What would you do with £40,000?

Hi guys. I lost my jobs a few years ago due to ill health, causing me to pull out of a house I was in the process of buying. I’m due to receive my deposit back, and combined with my savings I’ll have around £40,000 total. I’m keen to create a business with this if possible, due to not wanting a boss again for personal and health reasons. My illness requires time off to rest, hospital visits etc, so no employer would really hire me. Anyway, I’m at a loss on what I can realistically do with this small amount, and what I can do with my skills. I’ve worked in a small jewellery store at manager level, mobile phone retail, youth support worker, various police roles, and I’ve just passed a degree in counselling. So a bit of an eclectic mix, but I thrive when being able to help people. I disliked retail due to having to put money over morals everywhere I’ve worked, and as much as I’d like to have a counselling private practise, the income isn’t sustainable. I’ve thought of investing with others and flipping houses, but I know so little about that it seems risky. I’ve thought about things I can do from home such as buying a 3d printer or embroidery machine, but everyone seems to have one, and I’m not sure it would make enough income. The embroidery machine alone I viewed was £8,000. I’d quite like something I can do remotely on a laptop, although small quirky cafes and other brick and motor ideas have intrigued me, but I have no food or barista knowledge. I know I’d be a good boss as I’ve had enough crappy ones to know exactly how not to be. And everyone loved me during my time as a manager. So I’d consider a solo venture or one with employees, though that seems extremely unlikely with just 40k.

So if anyone has any ideas or recommendations in what to look into, or what I can do with this relatively small amount of capital, please help me out! I’m happy to learn new things in order to make a business work, I’m just a bit directionless and lacking ideas after I had to give up the job I’d worked my whole life for. Thanks for reading this far, have a good day/evening.
