Would 3D printed dental implants make sense?

I was talking with a few people and the topic of dental implants came up and how expensive they are.

I then thought that, if the material was cheaper, would it make it easier and more accessible to get.

I initially thought plastic but then I thought: what if the tooth was 3D printed and that was used as the implant? The rest of the components stay the same in order to maintain medical safety.

I see two main issues with the idea:

Durability, as the material would be weaker than normal and, while it may not break cleanly, it may cause other issues. That being said, at a point of mass production, it could be as easy as replacing a Lego piece.

Medical safety, 3D printed pieces are usually pretty porous and I don’t know how dense you can make one and keep it safe and at a lower price. There’s also the microplastics question.

Anyway, I’m not a medical professional nor do I have experience with 3D printing, it’s just something I thought of that could bring something which is currently out of reach to many people and could help make it accessible to those with lower incomes.
