Would you invest in residential construction in Argentina? Exploring micro-investing

Hey everyone,

I’m from Argentina (and full disclosure: it’s late here, so I’m writing this post with the help of ChatGPT to make sure it makes sense in English 😅).

Here’s the situation: I run a marketing agency, and my best friend owns a fairly large construction company here. Right now, he’s building over 65,000 sq ft (6,000 m²) of homes inside gated communities. Business is good for both of us, but we’re looking to level up and start something new together.

So, here’s the idea:

Argentina is a very informal country — people don’t usually ask too many questions about where money comes from, and doing business in dollars gives you massive investment power here.

Right now, with around $300,000 USD, you can build a 2,700 sq ft (250 m²) high-end house in a gated community. The expected return over 2 years is roughly 20% in USD, coming from resale or rental income.

We’re thinking about opening up this opportunity to micro-investors abroad — people who want to diversify a portion of their portfolio into emerging markets and relatively low entry points. Maybe contributions starting at $10k or $30k.

So here’s my question: Would you consider investing in something like this? Is it interesting? Sketchy? Too risky? What would make it trustworthy or appealing to you?

Looking for honest feedback, even if it’s harsh. I want to stress-test the idea before we take any steps.

Thanks for reading!
