My mother is going through half a century worth of things in her house, many of which come from family members older than her, and some of which have been in the 200 year-old western New York State house longer than she’s lived there. She found this. Appears to be silver. 6 cm (about 2 and 3/8 inches) long and 1.4 cm (about half an inch) at its widest point. Decorative carvings on the edge of the handle, but no words or numbers. Its edge is not sharp and does not appear to be designed to hold much of an edge. If it were larger it would be similar in style and feel to a letter opener. Best guess based on the house itself and the likelihood of how it might’ve ended up there is that it’s dated somewhere from the late 1800s to the mid-1900s, but that’s not definitive. Any ideas?
