Business idea – Smart Home for seniors and people with limited independence.

Currently, I mainly deal with renovations. Painting, wallpapering, plumbing, and electrical work. I don’t have any employees; I do everything myself. My hobby is smart home solutions. I’m slowly developing my home installation, but I’ve also had a few clients for whom I installed devices.

The idea was born when I was installing several devices for a client who was bedridden. He wanted to be able to control the blinds in his room – I installed motors for him, he wanted to be able to control the heating – I installed thermostats for him , he wanted to be able to open the front door when the nurse comes and close it when she leaves – I installed a Smart lock for him. Everything is controlled from your smartphone using one application.

Currently, new buildings are being equipped with home automation systems, but a very large part of the market consists of old apartments that do not have such installations. And those would be my target customers. Actually, not just seniors and people with disabilities, but their families—usually adult children who have their own families and jobs and would be happy to buy a little peace, time and at the same time monitoring and safety for elderly parents.

I did a little research and analysis of the local market and where I live, my region is the fastest aging region in the country.

There are 2-3 large companies on the regional market that deal with Smart Home installations, but from what I know, mainly in new buildings and on a larger scale.

More and more older people use smartphones on a daily basis.

Where I live (EU) The European Union invests heavily in the development of new technologies, energy saving and helping the elderly, due to the general aging of the population. I believe that a Smart Home is both a technological advancement, energy saving, and an aid to and simplification of everyday life. That’s why I think that in the longer term, such a project has a chance of obtaining development funding from EU funds.

The service would include design, sale of devices and their installation at the customer’s site, as well as training for household members.

When it comes to sales, I could look for a company, a partner – a manufacturer of such equipment to whom I can declare the installation on their products in exchange for the fact that I will only install his products.

I’m thinking about how to best reach customers. I have no experience in advertising and internet marketing, but everything is possible, it just depends on the will.

I would like to know your opinion on this idea, all comments are welcome.
