We were hiking and kept finding what looked like used tissues stuffed in holes in trees and logs. Finally found some open ones. We didn’t pick them up. What on earth is this?

Coffee filters with something granular/sandy inside. Found multiple in various areas of a nature sanctuary. Central Ohio.
