​Instead of privacy-threatening age verification schemes, make it law that all adult websites have to play a 20khz high frequency that only children can hear

There has been a lot of laws passed around the world in the last few years to limit children’s exposure to pornography, which on the surface is a good thing, but the methods seriously hamper privacy and anonymity. So I came up with this idea from the anti-loitering mosquito alarms that i have heard before too. The vast majority of adults cannot hear the high frequency, but young people can., and they’re very unpleasnt electronic squeals.

I raised the frequency to 20khz instead of the mosquito’s 17.5khz to minimise young adults being effected.

The website itself would emit the frequency and the vast majority of over 18s wouldn’t hear anything. I can attest for myself those noises are a good deterrant. Alternatively you could have the frequency built into new phones software by law.

It of course wouldn’t be as foolproof, it would have to start going quieter before 18 for most.

And for the Unlucky ones with very good hearing, then you could do the ID check. But it’s better than everyone having to. Same for pet owners. Just an idea
