​Laptops are named because they can be put on top of laps, but shouldn’t be used that way

It just struck me that laptops are named lap tops. Also, because of the heat they may produce they shouldn’t be placed on laps, as they may overheat because of lack of proper ventilation, and may even burn the user’s skin
