Hi all. I’m in southern USA. I’m in an IT position where my day job easily pays the bills and my kids are grown. I want to do something on the side to give back to society. And I’d like to combine that with my passion for getting my hands dirty with cars and fixing things. The idea is simple: Buy affordable vehicles that are potentially road worth but need a bit of love/repairs and once fixed they can be used by those that need a vehicle for work, school, etc. We’ll donate the vehicle to the needy based on applications/referrals (I think) and raise funds from donors to procure and repair the vehicle. Thinking we might even be able to obtain vehicles from wholesalers like Mannheim, salvage yards and the like. A few questions in my mind. 1) How do I mitigate risk against liability with the vehicle repairs and prevent having someone from suing us, 2) How do I scale to turn this into my full time job so that I can become an employee of the non-profit and leave my day job, 3) Any ideas to expand this idea to make it scale faster, bring in more revenue, and make a larger impact? Thanks for reading y’all.
