​New hire for new business

I wanted to make a post to get some advice, hopefully this is the right subreddit and flair for this (really couldn’t find one) but I assumed that since you guys have some experience finding partners for your own businesses that you might have some insight regarding my situation.

I’ll start the short story from the beginning, I was approached the other day on the ferry by someone while on my way home from work and we had a pretty good conversation the whole way back into the city which was about 30 minutes. We were basically just talking about work and stuff but this person owns their own business which I thought was cool. The person asks for my phone number and we go our separate ways.

Fast forward a month and I get a call around lunch time today from this person to which this person explains a little more about their business and tells me that they are looking for partners to grow and expand their business with. We didn’t go into a great amount of detail on the phone since I was in my office but we have a dinner set up to go over more specifics of the partnership/job.

From what I can tell, it sounds pretty serious and I believe this person is trustworthy and it sounds like they actually do own a business. It also will only require my time outside of work (nights and weekends) for now and will not require any of my own capital.

I know this isn’t much to go off of but was looking to see if any of you had any advice going into this dinner. What questions might be good to bring up for potentially getting involved in this type of thing? What should I look for that’ll let me know if this is worth the time or even a potentially a scam? Are new business owners typically cagey about revenue and profits, can I just straight up ask for balance sheet and income statement numbers like you see on shark tank?

I don’t really know what to ask you guys much less this business owner while I’m at dinner so any advice on what getting involved in new businesses entails would be much appreciated. Thanks
