I am a 22 year old, currently in university, studying computer science asy major. My area of expertise/what I’m good at is primarily Networking, and that’s the field I would love to enter.
Over the summer, I landed a Network Infrastructure Internship at one of the biggest distribution companies in my country, and it was a wonderful experience. The team was impressed by my skill set as it seems to be on a CCNP level, with me just needing to touch up on the theory side of things before I pursue my CCNA and CCNP certifications. Also, in my last week, my supervisor gave me a few technologies that would help me out in starting a little business while I’m in Uni.
He told me that I should go ahead and do an IT Solutions business with my friends that are scattered across IT and Comp Sci, where we offer contract services in Networking, Cyber Security, Databases, Maintenance and Repairs, along with any other expertise my “team” might come with. He says that would give valuable experiences and some money in my pocket while I finish up my studies, also making my team and I jacks of all trades instead of honing in on one area.
With all that said, it looks like a great idea and I’m genuinely excited about it, however the idea of owning a business does scare me a bit. More likely the uncertainty of it all, and I don’t even know the first thing about getting and retaining clients, so I was wondering if anyone in here has done anything similar to provide advice in starting out. It would be greatly appreciated.
