In my world…I would create a special police unit comprised of men who were trained from boyhood to throw baseballs really fast. These men would have devoted their entire lives to pitching fastballs at such devastatingly high speeds a direct hit to the head of a suspect could be lethal. Under my rule as President or King or Ruler in some alternate society I would have schools that mandate all boys from the time they are 4 go to a PE class to determine which ones have a natural ability to throw a ball. As is normal some people just have god given or are endowed with a prowess for certain athletic activities.
The selected boys would be taken from their homes. Parents would be compensated for this. The good of the society is most important. These boys would be placed in a special compound where developing explosive strength, speed & agility of the dominant throwing arm would be the main objective. By the time a boy reached the age of 12 he would be expected to be able to throw a fastball that could incapacitate a horse. The arm would have such strength by the time the boy reaches adulthood he would be expected to throw a 200 mile per hour fastball with such accuracy as to hit a target at 90 feet just like from the mound to home plate on a baseball field.
As the boys turn into young men they would be initiated into a special police force. These officers would carry bags of baseballs with them. In special situations like standoffs where a suspect was armed these officers would use stealth while other officers distract the suspect. The special officer would sneak up behind or in an area where the suspect couldn’t see him to deliver a fastball to the head of the suspect. The skill of these officers would be honed to such a degree that suspects would be lucky if they survive. A best scenario for the suspect is they are a vegetable sucking liquid food through straws or brain dead. Worst case and probably most humane outcome is they die instantly from a massive concussion.
Officers in this field would undoubtedly live a special life consisting of constant training to keep their ability to throw a baseball with supreme accuracy & speed. In this alternate world that would involve the use of steroids. Yes, unfortunately the lifespans of these individuals would be short. The extreme training & performance enhancing drugs including steroids would take a toll on their bodies. But keep in mind they are being employed by the government for the greater good & safety of society. For a cause much greater than them. And for this special endeavor they would receive great retirement benefits after 20 years of service or if their ligaments finally snap then they would have disability benefits for the rest of their lives.
I thought of this idea since the Romans had specialized soldiers. We need specialized police & soldiers with off the wall but effective methods & I thought this would be a unique one. I know it sounds insane. That’s why I am posting it here as I have thought about it for years & really needed to get it off my chest. I have envisioned countless & even comical scenarios of cops surrounding a suspect. Several officers would engage in distractive measures even as silly as doing jumping jacks in front of the suspect while another officer, unbeknownst to the suspect, wryly sneaks up ON the suspect to deliver a 200 mile per hour fastball to the head with DEADLY accuracy. I envision the stunned, wide-eyed expression on the suspects face just before he collapses & falls into a coma. Somehow there is something humorous to me when I picture that scenario.
