​Vehicle crash site – what is this long pole about 7′ high with a white cap on top that the police are holding? Is it to help with reconstruction of events?

Title says most of it. This accident happened about an hour ago and I’ve been watching the aftermath. Is this pole with white cap in some way related to reconstruction of the scene? They had a drone flying around taking footage not too long ago.
