​What is this part on my scissors for?

I’ve recently discovered what the middle part is for due to searching for my answer but no luck. Not a mistake when making the scissors either as the rest of them were like this too. I can only trust in Reddit to help me now and I do thoroughly apologise if I anger anyone with my curiosity.
