This is the opening for just something I started writing in between my main long running story and I’ve creatively named it slave
I sat in seering red sand, cooked alive by the morning sun. I cupped a handful experimentally and let it fall from my palm, burning my flesh and seeping into my calluses. I ignored my pain, determined to scrape blood from my skin with the leftover sand in my palm. I had my back to a dust and delapidated mud-house wall. I was facing the sun, a smoldering fire lay smoking not five meters from me. It certainly added to the heat I felt, though I did not care. The handcuff on my left wrist burnt, tore and ate its way through my skin like bugs feasting on shit. I began to slide down the wall, sleep beckoning my name. Hunger, thirst, exhaustion all played into my want for sleep. As my head rested atop the sand, a voice sang out to me. It was sweet like the nectar in honey and tantalized me as if it were water. I levered one eye open, taking nearly all my strength to do so. A woman was sitting across from me, healthy and harmonizing her vocals with the wind. She said something, to me it sounded like mere noise one makes out of boredom. Her features escaped me though they seemed familial, she reminded me of my older sister but that couldn’t be. I could make the outline of her but my attention to detail was lacking. My vision became several degrees more fucked and colours were degraded into shades of grey. I closed my eye once more, resting them for a short period to regain strength. Apparently I’m not allowed because once I did that, the lady began shaking me violently, spewing more incoherent babblings. Though I did make out two words, “murder” and “slave”. I didn’t want to hear more and refused to budge from beneath the swealtering, stagnant sun. Slowly my awareness shrank. I could hear no more. My pain had been lifted and the sun felt hidden to my skin. My breathe escaped my body though no air came to refill my lungs. My life was now laid forfeit to the laws of nature and anarchy.
