I wrote an website to help people who are lost or being kidnapped notify people they care about of their location. The idea works by
1: going to a website
2: enter your name and short message
3: enter up to 2 phone numbers
4: get a QR code
5: download and print the QR code OR
6: order stickers , temporary tattoos, dog tags OR
7: use a temp tattoo printer with representative
8: when the QR code is scanned, it
A: gets the current map location
B: texts the two phone numbers with the location and your name and brief identifying message
My target market is
1: caregivers for Alzheimer’s patients that wander off
2: parents of children at amusement parks or large events
3: people concerned about abduction or kidnapping
4: pet owners
When the person is found, they can show their sticker, drop their printed paper, or roll up their sleeve and show their temporary tattoo.
Profit centers: 1: Selling stickers or temporary tattoos of generated QR codes
2: Charging to print the QR code at events from tattoo printers like Prinker
3: reselling Prinkers or sticker printers
4: selling dog tags through veterinarian offices
5: branded gateway for care facilities
6: package tracking?
Security considerations: 1: To prevent hacking; all information is stored encrypted and accessible only when the unique ID in the QR code is scanned and the website is accessed.
2: The phone numbers are never displayed after being entered, preventing those who scan the code, or receive the text messages from know who received the messages (other than themselves)
3: even if the website is hacked, the encryption prevents those numbers from being exposed.
4: the site itself is never stores the location information that’s sent through it. It’s submitted, passed through the text gateway, and forgotten.
5: the tattoo only lives for X days, meaning that the QR code can’t be used to abuse the receivers of the text message (though recipients such as dog owners or caregivers can opt in for continuing the messages)
6: the recipients will be able to opt out of additional messages in case of abuse.
7: since the message will always come with the name of the service, it will not be a useful relay for phishing or spam.
The system works. I think it could be helpful. I think there may be avenues for non-exploitive, non-ad-driven profit. My scale is very small, but expandable.
I’m looking for help on marketing, distribution, legal and regulatory blind spots, etc.
Secondary (but not yet completely implemented) uses for the current tech stack:
1: QR temporary tattoo payments for people taking payments or donations, but can’t carry around a phone or credit card scanning equipment.
2: QR contact management (for conventions)
